Focus Academy:

Groundbreaking, Innovative and Highly Successful

No other school incorporates therapy into the curriculum and the school day the way that Focus Academy does. Our innovative program infuses drama therapy based social emotional learning opportunities and self care concepts into our academic curriculum that is creative yet undeniably challenging. We have the flexibility to adjust to student needs as they change and grow . Our full-time mental health team along with our academic team work collaboratively to provide not only support but proactive training for students to give them the tools for increased independence and self esteem.

Focus Academy has a commendable rating from the State of Florida, and has won several awards from the Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resource System. These accolades merely confirm what families have said since our founding: Focus Academy is an outstanding school that changes lives.

Middle School

Students will participate in Access Points classes taught by our ESE certified teachers. In addition they will build reading and comprehension skills via an innovative intensive reading program to specifically designed to engage students and to meet their individual needs. The program will provide social emotional learning opportunities through expressive arts therapies.

Focus Academy provides students a comprehensive academic and social experience. Curriculum at Focus Academy is structured with the primary goals of academic achievement and social success. Rigorous academics are a key component to our learning environment. Focus Academy students work towards a Standard Diploma via an Access Points curriculum.

Transition Program

This program builds on the philosophical approach of our High School program in that transition, life and employability skills training are combined with a continued and expanded focus on independent functioning skills, social competency, and social connection. Opportunities to continue to work on these all important life skills are infused into all learning, training and internship opportunities

Focus Academy relies on the latest educational research related to how adolescents and young adults learn best, in determining optimal student scheduling. As a result, our school day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m. Brain breaks are incorporated throughout the day.

An emphasis on moving toward independence is a fundamental objective of the Focus Academy program and begins on the very first day of school. Students learn strategies for self-advocacy and build self esteem through mastering these skills. This enables students to move seamlessly into Focus Academy’s Transition Program.
